West Chicago FPD responds to 92 fires in 2018

West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to 596 calls in 2018 - 2.9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in West Chicago included 92 fires - 42 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 39 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $659,000 in fire loss - or about $7,163 per fire.

The department also received 500 false calls, including 18 malicious calls and 482 other false calls.

Two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The West Chicago Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $11,124,525 in 2018.

The West Chicago FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 41 active employees and 21 retired or inactive employees, was $1,343,791 positive as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $11,485 for every fire in 2017.
