Republican Congressional candidate Jeanne Ives is almost at a loss for words in expressing her outrage for all the defund the police talk.
“It’s dangerous and it’s stupid,” Ives told the DuPage Policy Journal.
The movement to do away with police departments has been sweeping the country in the wake of death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis on Memorial Day. The incident has sparked protests and violence across the country, leading to Minneapolis City Council members being among the first to raise the prospect of permanently doing away with their city's Police Department. The idea quickly gained the support of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and the leaders of the Chicago Public Schools.
Now running against U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove) in the 6th Congressional District, Ives recently took to Facebook to blast Democrats over their support for such action.
“The Democrats are the party of lawlessness and chaos,” she posted. “Nearly every Democrat, including Casten, refused to vote against condemning the defund police movement and the rioting and lawlessness going on in the country. Democrats believe chaos and economic strife will lead to Biden being elected and their control of Congress.”
Ives points out that Casten actually voted against disapproving of the movement even though Chicago is one of the most violent cities in the country.
“Congressman Casten is out-of-touch,” Ives added in a news release. “We live in a time of increased uncertainty and lawlessness. The first role of government is to provide for public safety. In Chicago, anti-police efforts – like those Casten advocates – have failed. We need to have conversations about how to make our police forces better, not to further reduce the protection, safety and stability that law enforcement provides.”
