A volunteer effort is supporting first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing meals for hospital workers and emergency personnel.

Titled Glen Ellyn Cares, funds collected from the public will help nourish the health care workers with individually packed meals prepared and delivered by Glen Ellyn area restaurants,” a report in the Daily Herald said. Donations from the public at a GoFundMe website are being used to purchase and provide meals that will be delivered to Northwestern Hospital and the Amita Health Adventist Medical Center in Glen Oaks.

Individually packed boxed meals will be delivered to a safe location for workers to get meals during their shifts, the report noted.

“This is a way to thank front-line workers who need our support, while helping our local Glen Ellyn area restaurants who need our patronage,” a spokesman said. “The residents of Glen Ellyn want to do what they do best: help each other.”

The Glen Ellyn Cares fund is being managed by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Alliance in partnership with area restaurants. The organization also has a Facebook page.
