Did you know Americans purchase nearly 600 million pounds of candy for Halloween? This year, you can put all that candy to good use. Oakbrook Orthodontics and the Oak Brook Park District have partnered for a candy buy back program that benefits your family’s teeth, the troops overseas, and Oak Brook’s Universal Playground Project.
From November 1-November 8, families are encouraged to bring their excess Halloween candy to any of the following three locations: Oak Brook Park District Family Recreation Center, 1450 Forest Gate Road; Oak Brook Tennis Center, 1300 Forest Gate Road; or Oakbrook Orthodontics, 17W727 Butterfield Road in Oakbrook Terrace.
For every pound of Halloween candy collected at the park district facilities, Oakbrook Orthodontics will donate $1 to the playground. Families dropping their candy off at the office location may also request that their buy back earnings be donated to the Sandlot. All of the candy will be sent to deployed troops.
According to Dr. Neal LaRoia and his team, Operation Candy Buy Back is all about giving back. “This is the third year we have hosted an Operation Buy Back program, and we are looking forward to working with the Oak Brook Park District to help promote community wellness and the Universal Playground,” he said.
The Oak Brook Park District Sandlot – A Universal Playground opened last September. The fully-inclusive and innovative $1 million facility is designed so everyone, regardless of age or ability, can play together. According to Liz Littwin, corporate and community relations for Oak Brook Park District, the park district has annual fundraising goals for the Universal Playground Project to assist in the relief of debt services and maintenance related to the facility, which then frees up additional operational funding for other recreational opportunities for the community. “We could not be more grateful for Oakbrook Orthodontics and their ability to make a difference at home and overseas,” said Littwin.
