WHEATON FIRE DEPARTMENT: Raises More than $2,000 for MDA

Fire 02

Wheaton Fire Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.

During the 2018 MDA Fill the Boot campaign, members of the Wheaton Fire Department took to the streets to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related life-threatening diseases. Wheaton Fire Department personnel volunteered their time on Oct. 12 and 19 and raised $2,239 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

“The members of the Wheaton Fire Department have once again shown their immense dedication and care for MDA’s families during this year’s Fill the Boot campaign,” said MDA Development Coordinator Tori Jobski. “This year’s Fill the Boot was a success, and we are grateful for the generosity of those in the Wheaton community who have helped individuals with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases truly live unlimited.”

Firefighters have taken part in MDA’s Fill the Boot tradition for more than 60 years, collecting donations for MDA from pedestrians and motorists. These donations fund research toward finding treatments and cures for diseases that take away everyday abilities like walking, talking and even breathing. The MDA also uses funds for support groups, Care Centers, and sending more than 70 local kids to MDA Summer Camp at no cost to their families.

The Wheaton Fire Department appreciates the community’s support.
