The Illinois State Crime Commission has awarded state Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) with this year’s “Protector of the Family” honor.

Ives was recently feted at the organization’s 22nd annual “Salute to Those Who Make a Difference” Awards Dinner held at Drury Lane in Oak Brook. She was recognized for being “a strong, relentless advocate for Illinois families and taxpayers as they face one of the highest overall tax burdens in the entire United States.”

In addition to taking time out to graciously thank her presenters, Ives also made it a point of extending hope to residents.

“I am deeply grateful to the Illinois State Crime Commission for this award,” she said on her website. “Families and taxpayers are being crushed by taxes in Illinois, driving jobs and opportunity out of our once flourishing state. Property taxes are a prime culprit, and the political ruling class in both parties has failed to deliver solutions. Fighting for real, meaningful property tax reform has been one of my most passionate causes during my six years in the Illinois General Assembly. That fight will continue.”

This year’s award dinner was dedicated to the memory of the late Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer, who was killed on February 13 while attempting to detain a suspect who had fled from police moments earlier in the downtown Chicago area.
