Village of Roselle issued the following announcement on May 3.

A proposal currently being considered in Springfield would have a lasting negative impact on the Village's budget if enacted. Governor Rauner and State legislators are considering a proposal that would reduce the amount of State-collected income taxes that are distributed back to municipalities as part of their 2018-2019 budget.

The proposal includes the continuation of a 10 percent reduction in revenues distributed to local municipalities through the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF) that was included in last year's State budget. What was billed last year as a one-time 10 percent reduction in LGDF distribution is coming back again this year as a continual reduction. Every year this proposal passes, it means over $200,000 in annual losses to the Village of Roselle.

It is imperative that you let Governor Rauner and our State legislators know you want the local income tax to stay local, and that they need to solve the State budget problems with their own budgetary solutions, and not on the backs of municipalities. We are again asking you to send a message to Springfield that you support ensuring that local tax dollars remain in our community to pay for essential needs like adequate police and fire protection, street repairs, snow removal, and many more services that you rely on the Village to provide every day.

Voice your opposition to the proposal to reduce local revenue and let Governor Rauner and our State legislators know that you want your local tax dollars to stay local. Visit the Protect My Town Coalition at www.ProtectMyTown.us today to send your message.

More information about the LGDF and the effect that this proposal would have on Roselle is available on the Protect the Local Government Distributive Fund page.
