City of Elmhurst Commission on Youth met February 12.

Commission Updates
Opiate hotline 1-833-2FINDHELP, we would like to add it to our webpage and to
have cards for our resource table
Jackie attended the Glenbard Parenting Networking luncheon, well done
networking event.
Chris Heron is returning to the area next week to present “Parents I have a
Message for You”. Jackie will attend to determine if this is a new presentation.
Author of “13 Reasons” is available to be a speaker in the fall. Promotes
awareness, but does it glorify suicide? We would like to focus on substance
abuse.
Jan and Joey will reach out to Gilda to explore speakers brought in by GPN, as
well as explore other outlets for our major fall speaker
Jan suggested “adjustment” as a possible topic, life stage transitions
Bob suggested we have a meeting with Elmhurst First Resonders
Depression program Thurs, 2/17 pm Annie
Great presentation, just the right amount of information, positive feedback, library
was a wonderful venue
Vaping program Jackie/Nick/Dan/Dannee
Still no date yet, but targeting May. Dan shared that the ordinance is back from
the lawyers and will be on the agenda for February 26th before going before City
Council for final approval
Teen Job and Volunteer Fair, Wednesday, March 14 updates Jackie/Kim
Flyers (30) were distributed in the meeting
The poster (50) had the wrong day of the week, Elmhurst Library to reprint
15 companies are participating, but several of our key participants have not yet
committed
Banner is in good shape, Velcro over the date
Need 100 bags, pencils are welcome too
Jackie ordered food/water and will secure Wi-Fi code
Abbey is available for overflow parking
Dan and/or Nick to be near entrance at 2:15 or 2:30 to facilitate vendor move-in;
ID required
Amy Thompson, York Career Center will be there to answer questions
Elmhurst Chamber blast will go out next week, added to Talk205 today, already
has an event page on Explore Elmhurst
Double-check to see if Patty had made a “cheat sheet” to go into the program
with work permit information, guidelines on how many hours, how late, etc… a
teen can work
Youth Exemplary Service Awards, Wednesday, April 18 Updates Jackie
2 group nominations/3 individuals
Judges: Alderman Marti Deuter, Deputy Police Chief McLean and Deputy Fire
Chief Anaszewicz. Dr. Moyer and Mayor Morley will both participate.

Jan will contact Jenny Fox at the City to get a list of past nominators to solicit
their nominations
Next year we’ll explore adding required fields to gather more information on the nominees
