City of Elmhurst Economic Development Commission met January 26. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the commission:

Present: Bill Shanklin, Chair, Rich Reichert, Vice Chair, Chris LaBounty, Melissa Villanueva, Matt Galas, Brian Stolper, Kurt Schiele, Tim Ricordati, Nina Coppola Radke


Absent: Diane McGinnis, Maryann Gorski, Julie Coan, Bill Huber, Don Meyers, Mark Anglewicz

Also Present: Kevin York, Mike Kopp, Erin Jason, John Quigley, Ken Bartels

The EDC meeting was called to order at 7:34 a.m.

The Minutes of December 15, 2017 were approved as submitted.

There were no public comments.

Bill Shanklin mentioned the upcoming Commissioner Appreciation Event on March 1 at the Elmhurst Art Museum, hosted by the City. More details forthcoming.

Ken Bartels reminded the EDC that the February 23 meeting will have an altered agenda and will have instead our annual ‘brainstorming/discussion’ format. Details when the agenda is shared in a few weeks. The meeting will be hosted by/at the Elmhurst American Legion. Ken also mentioned the EDC Subcommittee assignments handout and that Commissioners Anglewicz, Huber, LaBounty, Radke and Schiele are up for reappointment by April 30. Ken will be in contact to ascertain their interest in continuing with the EDC.

Erin Jason and Ken will begin to work with the women of the EDC on the 5th Women-in-Management event, scheduled at this point in April, very soon. John Quigley offered a partnership option with the Chamber.

Bill mentioned the retention visits outline handout. There were nine visits noted.

Erin reported on several businesses and their status including: Elmhurst Brewing Company, Pinotte’s Palette, Do It Together, 99 Chicago, LeadCore, Sweet Berry, Kimmer’s Ice Cream, Gem Car Wash, Marco’s Table and FFC.

Mike Kopp reported on the City’s updating of its Strategic Plan and possible EDC involvements. He reported on the new building being planned for the former Chamberlain site in the Business Park. He shared the plans for the new Elmhurst Clinic. He also updated the EDC on the plans for the new downtown TIF, with TIF 1 set to expire in 2021 or sooner. The public hearing is scheduled for March 5.

Kevin York announced the annual President’s Breakfast at Elmhurst College on March 10 just ahead of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Spring Road which this year will have the Elmhurst American Legion as its Grand Marshall.

John Quigley mentioned the Chamber’s annual Gala tonight, January 26, which this year is their ‘100th Anniversary Birthday Bash’. Their Centennial Campaign is progressing well vs. the $250,000 goal.

Brewpoint Coffee and Commissioner Melissa Villanueva are the ‘Business of the Year’. John also mentioned the multi-chamber economic outlook luncheon on February 13. Commissioners interested in attending should contact Erin. Lastly, the Chamber’s community directory has been delivered to all households in the City.

Brian Stolper asked about information regarding the recent ‘opportunity crimes’ in the City with discussion following.
