Analysis: Sales tax funded 4 percent of City of St. Charles budget in 2016

The City of St. Charles' local sales tax brought in $5,993,378 in 2016, according to Illinois State Comptroller revenue data. St. Charles, population 33,267, relied on its local sales tax to contribute 4 percent of total revenue that year.

DuPage Policy Journal analyzed the sales tax collections in six Kane County suburbs and found they generated a total of $13,067,304 in tax revenue in 2016. That was the equivalent of 4% spent by local government.
