Analysis: Sales tax funded 12 percent of Village of Bloomingdale budget in 2016

The Village of Bloomingdale's local sales tax brought in $4,191,266 in 2016, according to Illinois State Comptroller revenue data. Bloomingdale, population 22,299, relied on its local sales tax to contribute 12 percent of total revenue that year.

Bloomingdale levies a 0.5 percent sales tax. The average of seven suburbs in DuPage County is 0.89. The high is 1.25 percent; the low is 0.5 percent.

DuPage Policy Journal analyzed the sales tax collections in seven DuPage County suburbs and found they generated a total of $27,358,414 in tax revenue in 2016. That was the equivalent of 8% spent by local government.
