The price of local government: Village of Carol Stream

The village of Carol Stream budget was $51.59 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $4,957.86 per household.

That's an increase of 21.6 percent from 2014 when the village spent $42.43 million, or $4,078.30 per household.

Carol Stream has 10,405 households and a population of 39,711.

Since 2001, the village of Carol Stream budget has grown by 9.8 percent, from $47 million. The village population has fallen 1.8 percent over the same period, from 40,438.

Salaries accounted for 24.5 percent of village spending in 2015. Carol Stream property taxpayers paid $12.66 million for 143 full-time employees and 24 part-time employees.
