Fire hydrants in the City of West Chicago will get a makeover through the end of the year, weather permitting.
A contractor, Go Painters, will sandblast each of the 340 hydrants, removing old paint, and re-painting them with one coat of gray primer, topped off with two coats of yellow paint.
Most of the hydrant painting will take place in areas south of Washington Street, specifically Hawthorn Lane, within St. Andrews Estates Subdivision; Willow Creek Subdivision; and Arbors Subdivision. The City of West Chicago Water Division is tasked with monitoring the contractor’s progress, including inspections of work quality.
Fire hydrant painting is underway and should continue until around Dec. 10. The contractor will work 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
Questions regarding the fire hydrant painting can be directed to City of West Chicago Utility Superintendent Timothy Zasada at 630-293-2255, ext. 501, or via email at tzasada@westchicago.org.
