Newly minted ‘Rotary Green’ marks Elk Grove park

In honor of the Elk Grove Rotary Club’s longtime involvement in the community, Elk Grove Village leaders officially dubbed a 2.7-acre park area on Lions Drive that hosted two recent concerts “Rotary Green” in July.

Known for its annual accommodation of RotaryFest and located at 164 Lions Drive, the property first hosted the Elk Grove Village July 4 concert with Peter Cetera.

The newly minted name was announced with flourish just before a special 60th anniversary musical event with the band Foreigner on July 17. Just before the concert started, the village board leaders invited Elk Grove Rotary Club members onto the stage in order to thank them for their hard work in putting together the 60th Anniversary Car Raffle — then surprised the Rotarians with the news.

The official park renaming served as a symbolic gesture not only for the Rotary Club's efforts in running the automobile raffle, but also as an acknowledgement of their many contributions to the community over the years.

Rotary Green is just north of Lions Park on Lions Drive. The village purchased the land from Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in June 2014 for  $500,000.
