The City of St. Charles, Illinois has announced its hydrant flushing schedule.
Already underway, the program will continue until May 6. The Department of Public Works performs the annual hydrant flushing to reduce mineral build up in the water mains and improve water quality.
Signs announcing hydrant flushing will be posted in the area prior to flushing. The water may appear rust- or tea-colored, but it is safe to consume. The water may stain clothing during washing.
The town advises residents limit water use during the flushing operations. When complete, residents should run cold water until the water runs clear.
The city is offering free stain remover at the Public Works facility, 1405 South 7th Ave.; Municipal Building Reception Desk, 2 East Main St.; and the Police Department, 211 North Riverside Ave.
