The St. Charles Police Department recently finished a 14-day traffic-enforcement crackdown effort.
As part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket traffic safety campaigns, the department assigned extra patrol officers and set up various checkpoints for DUI and seatbelt scofflaws throughout the area.
The enforcement period included the busy post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping period, particularly during evening and overnight hours, when violations are more likely.
The Illinois Department of Transportation provided funding and aided in implementation. The enhanced enforcement is part of an Illinois statewide initiative to cut down on traffic-related injuries and deaths.
During the program's period, Nov. 16-29, the St. Charles Police Department’s extra patrol forces made three arrests for DUI and wrote seven tickets for speeding, two citations for driving without insurance, and one citation for underage consumption of alcohol, plus seven warning tickets issued for various violations.
