The Village of Roselle announces that Village Hall is closed today, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. The community is invited to celebrate Independence Day at Lake Park High School West Campus, located at 500 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue, this Friday, July 3.

The event features live music by Chicago band Maggie Speaks from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Following the performance, Roselle resident Frankie Molfese sings the national anthem, right before a fireworks and lights show begins at approximately 9:30 p.m. Food vendors include Doctor Dogs, Da Pizza Company, Kona Ice, Travelin' Tom's Coffee, and D's Treats.

Bryn Mawr Avenue closes at Mensching Road and at the entrance to the Clauss Recreation Center parking lot starting around 4:00 p.m. It reopens once the fireworks end and parking lots clear — usually between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. No street parking is available around the school, but parking is provided at the main and junior lots of Lake Park High School and at the Clauss Recreation Center lot, with designated handicap spaces in both school lots.

Attendees using bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, skateboards, or similar devices are required to dismount and walk them. The Village advises: “Do not cross into the fireworks launch area if entering from the north or west sides! When leaving, stop and look both ways before crossing streets or driveways. Watch for turning vehicles and proceed carefully at crosswalks.”

The Village also reminds residents that the possession and use of personal fireworks are prohibited under both Village Code and Illinois State Law. “The Village’s annual July 3 Independence Day Celebration is the only permitted fireworks display in Roselle. Beyond legal penalties, home fireworks can cause serious harm: they injure thousands of people annually, damage property — nationwide, fireworks start over 30,000 fires each year — and disturb neighbors, veterans, and pets, who often become frightened and may try to escape,” the Village states. The National Fire Protection Association confirms these risks.

Additional summer safety guidelines include rules for bonfires: never leave a fire pit unattended, keep fires at least 15 feet away from buildings, burn only clean, dry wood, and keep water nearby. Residents are encouraged to call 9-1-1 immediately if a fire gets out of control.

The Village Board’s next meeting takes place on July 13; meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of every month at Village Hall. Residents can sign up for email updates, read meeting minutes online, or watch recordings on YouTube. July is also recognized as Smart Irrigation Month — the Village recommends checking irrigation systems and avoiding watering during the hottest parts of the day to save water.

Meanwhile, the Roselle Chamber of Commerce and Industry is running a raffle to raise funds for a new website, with a prize package valued at more than $3,500. Full details are available on the Village’s official website.
