RNC Research, the Republican National Committee’s research arm, shared a post highlighting remarks by Rep. Delia Ramirez, a Democrat representing Illinois’ 3rd District, in which she described Trump administration officials as “fascists” and called for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and dismantling the Department of Homeland Security.

According to recent interviews and coverage, Ramirez has aligned with progressive calls to significantly alter federal immigration enforcement. Her proposals include restricting DHS detention and monitoring funding, which she claims would "cripple" immigration enforcement functions. Ramirez has publicly identified herself as the daughter of undocumented immigrants from Guatemala and said that she is married to a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). These personal details have drawn increased attention as immigration enforcement remains a contentious national issue.

Quantitative data from the Migration Policy Institute indicates that abolishing or dismantling ICE would involve reallocating resources from an agency with an estimated $9.1 billion budget in fiscal year 2024 and approximately 21,000 personnel. Of these, around 7,700 are tied to enforcement and removal operations. The same analysis shows that DHS conducted an average of about 352,000 deportations annually between fiscal years 2020 and 2024, with ICE responsible for approximately 146,000 each year.

RNC Research operates as a rapid-response political research unit within the Republican National Committee's communications framework. It publishes content designed to shape Democratic statements and policy positions for media outlets and voters.
