DuPage County court denies pre-trial release for man charged in Hinsdale robbery
Judge Robert Walsh granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for Jesus Enrique Paredes-Castillo, 24, who is accused of robbing a woman of her gold necklace in Hinsdale, according to a July 16 announcement by DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Hinsdale Chief of Police Brian King.
Paredes-Castillo appeared in First Appearance Court charged with one count of Robbery, a Class 2 Felony. The incident occurred on July 10 at approximately 6:25 p.m., when police responded to a robbery call in the 0-100 block of W. Hinsdale Avenue. Authorities allege that Paredes-Castillo approached the victim and her friends as they sat on a bench, walked behind them, and forcibly removed a gold rope necklace valued between $2,000 and $3,000 from the victim’s neck before fleeing on foot and then leaving the scene in a gray Ford Focus.
Following an investigation that identified Paredes-Castillo as the suspect, detectives observed him exiting and re-entering the Ford Focus at a gas station in Chicago on July 15. Detectives followed him to his last known address on W. Gladys Avenue, where he was taken into custody after police stopped his vehicle.
“It is alleged that Mr. Paredes-Castillo approached an innocent woman who was out enjoying an evening with friends, violently ripped a gold necklace off her neck and then fled the scene,” Berlin said. “Random crimes, such as alleged in this case, destroy a community’s sense of security and will not be tolerated in DuPage County. My office stands ready and will diligently work with our law enforcement partners to ensure this type of behavior never becomes commonplace. I commend the Hinsdale Police Department for their outstanding work that led to the apprehension of the defendant in this case and for their continued efforts in keeping our neighborhoods safe. I thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Rob Willis and Kelsey Kerr for their work in preparing a strong case against Mr. Paredes-Castillo.”

Paredes-Castillo’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 3 before Judge Mia McPherson.
Members of the public are reminded that these charges are not proof of guilt; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt. According to data from Illinois State Board of Education, DuPage County had an average student-to-teacher ratio of 13-to-1 during the 2022-23 school year across its schools.
