Darien counted 5 licensed child care centers in 2025, state records show
Data from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services indicates Darien recorded five licensed child care centers in 2025.
All five facilities operated as day care centers, accounting for 100% of the providers in Darien.
These providers offer care for children ages 1 month to 12 years, covering infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age groups.
English is the language supported at every child care provider in Darien.
Statewide, Illinois had 8,602 licensed child care facilities in 2025.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has suspended certain federal funds for child care and family assistance programs in California, Colorado, Minnesota, New York and Illinois due to concerns over fraud and misuse, the agency announced Jan. 6. The suspension covers close to $2.4 billion from the Child Care and Development Fund, $7.35 billion from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and $869 million from Social Services Block Grants. States must now submit documentation before funds are released.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker criticized the move, calling it “wrong and cruel” and stated that the state is considering challenging the freeze, noting that Illinois has existing anti-fraud measures.
The state’s administration reported the freeze could impact about 100,000 families and more than 152,000 children who use Illinois’ Child Care Assistance Program, as well as funding for thousands of licensed child care providers and 275 human service organizations.
