Court detains Oswego man accused of assault while on pre-trial release in DuPage County

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Wheaton Chief of Police P.J. Youker announced July 22 that Judge Jeffrey MacKay has granted the State’s motion to revoke pre-trial release for an Oswego man newly charged with allegedly punching a woman in the face near the Illinois Prairie Path while he was out on pre-trial release.

According to Berlin and Youker, the court’s decision follows new charges against the individual, who was previously released pending trial. The alleged incident occurred near the Illinois Prairie Path, a popular trail in the area. The State requested that the court detain the accused following the new allegations, and Judge MacKay granted the motion.

The State’s Attorney’s Office and Wheaton Police Department said the decision to seek detention was based on the seriousness of the new charges and the fact that the alleged offense occurred while the individual was already on pre-trial release. The authorities emphasized the importance of public safety in their request to the court.
