The Village of Woodridge recognized four local students as recipients of the Village of Woodridge/Prologis Foundation Scholarship Grants at the July 16 Village Board Meeting. Kristin Bowers of Downers Grove North High School, James Campbell of Benet Academy, Andrew Schmith of Montini Catholic High School, and Elizabeth "Ellie" Tran of Downers Grove South High School were honored for their academic achievements. Campbell and Tran attended the meeting, while Bowers and Schmith were acknowledged in their absence due to summer work commitments. The Village extended congratulations and best wishes to all four recipients for their future academic and professional endeavors.

Several upcoming village meetings were announced, including a specially called Village Board meeting on July 23, a Board of Police Commissioners meeting on July 27, and a Plan Commission meeting on August 3. The Woodridge Police Department will host its annual National Night Out on August 4 at Duffy’s Pavilion, offering community members an opportunity to meet local officers and participate in activities such as a drone demonstration, bounce house, face painting, and children’s events.

Residents are invited to connect with Felicia Acosta, a licensed social worker with the Woodridge Police Department, at the Woodridge Public Library on July 20 and August 17. Acosta will provide assistance with mental health resources, government programs, benefits, stress management, and financial aid. Registration is required through the library’s website.

The Village is also conducting a school supply drive through August 6 to support nearly 1,100 students in Woodridge School District 68 whose families may struggle to purchase supplies. Donations can be made at Village Hall, Old National Bank, or St. Scholastica. Items needed include backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, pens, markers, scissors, highlighters, glue sticks, binders, and calculators.

The Illinois Tollway has proposed a new 15-year, $26.5 billion capital program called Driving Connections, aimed at improving traffic and road conditions. Residents can learn more about the program, view public hearing dates, and submit comments on the Illinois Tollway website. The Illinois Tollway administers toll road operations in the state and provides roadside assistance to stranded motorists, according to the Illinois Tollway.

In addition, the U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest disaster loans to residents, homeowners, renters, businesses, and certain nonprofits affected by the June 11 storms and tornadoes in DuPage County. These loans can help repair or replace damaged property and cover eligible losses not fully covered by insurance. Economic Injury Disaster Loans may also be available to small businesses and nonprofits. Further information is available through the DuPage County website.

The Village is currently accepting applications for entry-level police officers and a school crossing guard position. Details and application instructions are available on the Village’s government jobs website. Community events such as the Woodridge Park District Summer Concert Series, Movies Under the Moon, and the Rotary Back-to-School Duck Dash are also scheduled in the coming weeks.
