West Chicago man sentenced to 11 years for striking electric scooter rider and leaving scene

A West Chicago man has been sentenced to eleven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after striking a man on an electric scooter with his vehicle and leaving the scene after he had been drinking, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced July 17.

According to Berlin, the incident occurred in the summer of 2024. The man, whose name was not provided in the announcement, hit an individual riding an electric scooter with his vehicle and subsequently left the scene. Berlin said the driver had been drinking prior to the incident.

"A West Chicago man who, after he had been drinking, hit a man on an electric scooter with his vehicle in the summer of 2024, has been sentenced to eleven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections," according to Berlin.

The sentencing follows an investigation and prosecution by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. The office said the case underscores the consequences of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
