Wood Dale FPD responds to 57 fires in 2017

Wood Dale Fire Protection District responded to 325 calls in 2017 - 5.8 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Wood Dale included 57 fires - 29 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and 21 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $351,700 in fire loss - or about $6,170 per fire.

The department also received 265 false calls, including two malicious calls and 263 other false calls.

Three fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $5,305,192 in 2017.

The Wood Dale FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 27 active employees and 41 retired or inactive employees, was $1,758,928 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $25,128 for every fire in 2016.
