White students made up largest share of enrollment at DuPage County universities in 2023-24

White students were the largest ethnic group among students at DuPage County universities in the 2023-24 school year, according to the latest disclosure from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Of the 71,250 students enrolled at institutions in the county in 2023-24, 43% were white. That was 1.8% lower the previous year.

Hispanic students were the second-largest ethnic group, accounting for 21% of enrollment, followed by Black or African American students at 19.1%.

Countywide, undergraduate enrollment at the 19 universities in the county grew to 71,250 students in the 2023-24 school year. DeVry University-Illinois reported the largest enrollment, with 26,146 students.

College completion rates have held steady in recent years, but racial and ethnic gaps persist. Among students who entered college in fall 2019, 61.1% earned a credential within six years, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. Asian students had the highest six-year completion rate, at 75.7%, followed by White students at 69.0%, Hispanic students at 50.5% and Black students at 44.0%.
