West Chicago FPD responds to 117 fires in 2017

West Chicago Fire Protection District responded to 579 calls in 2017 - 5.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in West Chicago included 117 fires - 52 structure fires, 11 vehicle fires and 54 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $157,951 in fire loss - or about $1,350 per fire.

The department also received 460 false calls, including 30 malicious calls and 430 other false calls.

Six fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The West Chicago Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $10,842,038 in 2017.

The West Chicago FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 41 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $1,731,213 in debt as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $17,848 for every fire in 2016.
