Progress continues on the new Westmont Fire Facility, with design and approval efforts moving forward. The Village of Westmont has decided to proceed with the design of a new Fire Station Headquarters at 6015 S. Cass Avenue, replacing the current building at that location.
A project update, including budget details, will be presented at the next Public Works Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 11 at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at Village Hall, located at 31 W Quincy Street.
“I want to thank everyone involved with this process,” said Fire Department Deputy Chief Tom Frank. “There are a lot of considerations and plans that need to be confirmed as we move this project forward.“ Frank added, “As always, we are making sure that public safety is our primary consideration as we set up a temporary location for the Westmont Fire Department that ensures we continue to have a fire and EMS presence south of the railroad tracks. We want to assure residents that we will maintain our current excellent response times in regard to quickly and effectively serving residents and businesses south of the downtown railroad tracks.”
Current planning includes relocating Fire Department Administration staff temporarily to the Water Division facility at 39 E. Burlington Avenue. Fire engines and EMS services will operate from the site where the old Public Works facility was located on South Wilmette Avenue and 55th Street. Additional fire crews will be stationed at 500 N. Cass Avenue.
The transition to these temporary locations and demolition of the existing fire department building at 6015 S. Cass Avenue is expected by summer 2026.
