Mike Schauer, Athletics Director | Wheaton College
Mike Schauer, Athletics Director at Wheaton College, has announced changes in the leadership of the college's men's and women's golf programs. Paul Craig, who served as head coach for both teams, is stepping down from his position effective immediately.
Dr. Kelly Vazquez has been appointed as the new head coach of the Wheaton women's golf team. Vazquez previously worked as an assistant coach during the team's fall season and brings experience from her collegiate playing career at North Central College, where she was a varsity captain and received multiple academic and athletic honors. These include three selections to the CCIW Academic All-Conference Team and recognition on the National Women's Golf Coaches Association (NWGCA) All-American Scholar Team over three consecutive years. In 2016, she was honored with North Central College's Servant Leadership Award for her leadership and service contributions.
In addition to coaching, Dr. Vazquez joined Wheaton College as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering in Fall 2023.
Jonny Tink will take over as head coach for the Thunder men's golf program through the remainder of the 2025-26 school year. Tink has been an assistant coach with Wheaton since 2018 and played four seasons for the college’s golf team between 2009 and 2013. His accomplishments include being named to the Division III PING All-Central Region Team as a senior and earning All-CCIW recognition after finishing second at the 2013 CCIW Men's Golf Championships. He also secured victories at several tournaments during his senior year.
Schauer commented on these changes: "I am excited that we have split the position for both programs so that we have a dedicated coach for each team."
