A free Children’s Safety Expo will take place on September 13 at Erickson Elementary School in Bloomingdale, featuring demonstrations and activities aimed at educating families about safety. The event is being organized by State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett), along with State Representatives Jennifer Sanalitro (R-Hanover Park) and Amy Grant (R-Wheaton).

The expo runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon and includes demonstrations such as the Bloomingdale Police K-9 unit, a Traveling World of Reptiles show, and a landing by the University of Chicago Aeromedical Network helicopter. Other attractions include a “Touch-a-Truck” exhibit where children can explore vehicles like squad cars, fire trucks, and snow plows. Local professionals will be present to answer questions about their work.

“This free event is a good way for kids and their parents to come out and have some fun while learning valuable information about topics like nutrition and fire safety,” said Lewis. “I hope families will come out and enjoy the Traveling World of Reptiles show and take the opportunity to meet some of the local law enforcement officers and first responders that keep our communities safe.”

Admission is free, with giveaways available during the event. Scheduled demonstrations include the Bloomingdale Police K-9 at 9:30 a.m., Traveling World of Reptile Show at 10:00 a.m., Stardom Dance Academy at 11:30 a.m., followed by drawings and giveaways at noon.

“We have an excellent roster of organizations that will be in attendance and available to provide useful resources and safety information for families, as well as fun and interactive activities for the kids,” added Lewis. “This promises to be a really fun event!”

Organizations participating in the expo include local police departments, public works departments, health organizations, educational institutions, state agencies, entertainment groups, animal exhibits, emergency services providers, nonprofit organizations, government offices, transportation agencies, among others.

Lewis was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois' 24th Senate District in 2023 after replacing Suzy Glowiak.
