State Representative Amy Grant of Wheaton, Illinois, has joined a lawsuit with other Republican legislators to enforce the Illinois Constitution’s Third Reading Rule. This action follows the passage of Senate Bill 328, which they claim did not follow proper legislative procedures.

“Our responsibility as lawmakers is to ensure transparency, accountability, and good government,” said Rep. Grant. “But we’re seeing a troubling trend where the majority party is cutting corners and ignoring the Constitution to rush legislation through. It’s careless and wrong.”

The Illinois Constitution mandates that bills be read on three separate days in each chamber to allow lawmakers and the public adequate time for review. According to Republican lawmakers, SB 328 bypassed this process, representing another instance where Democrats have used their supermajority status to avoid scrutiny.

“This isn’t how responsible governing is supposed to work,” said Grant. “Every time the majority ignores the rules, trust in the legislative process takes another hit. It’s time to put a stop to this carelessness.”

Senate Bill 328 faces opposition from job creators across Illinois and is expected to lead to an increase in abusive lawsuits. Grant argues that these factors further demonstrate that the bill required more thorough examination.
