As the 2025 spring legislative session concludes, State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has expressed significant concerns regarding Illinois' largest budget in history, which amounts to $55.2 billion. She criticizes the substantial tax increases proposed by Democrats to fund this budget.

“This budget is nearly $2 billion more than last year. Since Governor Pritzker took office, Illinois’ spending has exploded by almost 40% yet middle-class families in DuPage are being asked to pick up the tab,” said Grant. “Springfield is once again trying to tax its way out of its own mismanagement.”

Democrats have proposed a variety of new taxes, including a service tax on common needs such as haircuts and car repairs, as well as a delivery tax on packages. These measures could increase living costs at a time when many families are already facing financial challenges.

Grant argues that instead of reducing unnecessary spending, state leaders are asking citizens to finance new programs that taxpayers cannot afford. This includes billions in benefits for non-citizens while essential services for Illinois residents remain underfunded.

Republican lawmakers were reportedly excluded from major decisions related to transit reform and the budget process. “When one party controls everything, there’s no real accountability,” said Grant. “That’s not how a responsible government should work.”

Rep. Grant encourages residents to oppose the State’s FY2026 Budget and voice their concerns. “This isn’t just about numbers. People in our communities are doing their best to make ends meet—and they deserve a government that respects their paycheck.”

State Representative Amy Grant is currently serving her fourth term in the General Assembly representing the 47th district, which includes several communities in DuPage County such as Naperville, Warrenville, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Lisle, Carol Stream, Bartlett, West Chicago, Winfield, and Wayne.
