State Senator Seth Lewis announced that communities and a forest preserve in the 24th Senate District will receive Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grants totaling $10,010,910. These funds are part of a statewide initiative supporting 66 projects aimed at improving community infrastructure such as bike and pedestrian paths, sidewalks, and streetscape beautification.
Senator Lewis expressed satisfaction with the allocation of state funds to his district. "I am always pleased when state dollars come back to the 24th District," he stated. "These funds will be put to good use as several local communities engage in beautification projects."
The specific allocations within the 24th District include:
- City of Warrenville: A $3 million grant for constructing a multi-use path and sidewalk along IL Route 59.
- Elk Grove Village: Two grants totaling $2,951,550 for developing pedestrian and bicyclist paths on Tonne Road.
- Village of Roselle: A $2,999,360 grant for enhancements along Irving Park Road (IL Route 19), including bike paths and streetscape improvements.
- Forest Preserve District of DuPage County: A $1,060,000 grant for replacing Cenacle Bridge in Blackwell Forest Preserve.
Senator Lewis noted that this year saw 233 ITEP applications submitted statewide, with total funding amounting to $139.2 million across all approved projects.
