CCIW baseball players achieve national rankings and prepare for upcoming matches

The CCIW baseball teams are preparing for an active schedule over the coming days as the season progresses. Upcoming games include Wheaton at Carthage on March 28 at 3:00 p.m. and North Park facing Illinois Wesleyan at 5:00 p.m. on the same day. The schedule continues with various matches through the week, culminating in Wheaton at North Central on April 4.

In national standings, several players from CCIW have made notable achievements. Carroll's Thomas Ward ranks fourth in Division III with 2.06 runs batted in per game. Illinois Wesleyan's Cade Tomhave holds a seventh place in on-base percentage with .610 and is 18th in batting average with .488. Carthage's Bryce Schaum is ninth with 14.96 strikeouts per nine innings, and North Central’s Peyton Burgh is 12th with 0.25 triples per game. Other standouts include Millikin's Alec Mallinder with four pitching victories, ranking 18th, and Nolan Reiman, also of Millikin, who is 25th with three saves.

On a local level, Augustana’s Zach DeMarlie has maintained a 2.55 earned-run average over six appearances this season. He recorded a notable performance against St. Olaf, allowing just two hits over 8.0 innings. The team, currently 9-7, will face North Central on March 30.

Carroll's Ward continues to lead his team with a .375 average, eight doubles, and five home runs, along with 33 runs batted in. The team holds a record of 9-8. At Carthage, freshman Christian Duarte assists in maintaining a team-high .650 slugging percentage, contributing to the team’s 15 home runs this season.

Elmhurst’s Rock Smith leads the CCIW with six home runs this year, hitting .441 with a .809 slugging percentage. Illinois Wesleyan's Tomhave boasts a remarkable .468/.587/.596 slash line over 64 appearances.

Millikin’s Tyler Gade has been successful with base thefts, achieving 14 stolen bases out of 16 attempts in his first 18 appearances. North Central's Caleb Coberey has achieved a .397 batting average across his first 16 games, contributing significantly to his team’s performance.

North Park’s Alex DiVito has a strong .370 batting average, while Wheaton’s Nate Burden holds the lowest earned-run average in the league at 2.15.
