City of Warrenville Environmental Advisory Commission met Feb. 4

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

A. CALL TO ORDER

Chair Gerber call the meeting to order at 7:05pm.

B. ROLL CALL

Present: Commissioner Jean-Marie Kauth (JMK), Commissioner Patrick McNulty (PM), Commissioner Margaret Votava (MV), Commissioner Kathy Franke (KF), Chair Cecilia Gerber (CG)

Also Present: Staff Liaison David Romero, Council Liaison Kathy Davolos

Absent: None

C. APPROVAL OF JANUARY 21, 2025 MINUTES

The minutes of January 21, 2025 were unanimously approved.

D. CITIZEN COMMENTS

No citizen comments.

E. OFFICIALS AND STAFF COMMENTS/REPORTS

No staff report submitted.

F. BUSINESS OF MEETING

1. Sorting and Packaging of Battery Recycling

The commissioners packed 2 battery boxes for recycling

2. Discussion of possible collaboration with the Hozho Project

MV will discuss with Henry Sikora at the next Environmental Paradise meeting on February 6, 2025.

3. Planning for future Library Series

The commissioners discussed and confirmed the presentations for the Library Series. Currently the days and topics are as listed below:

○ May 7th is confirmed for EV (MacFaddens presenting)

○ July 9th - Dark skies is confirmed (Adam Kreuzer)

○ September 3rd - Scarce Recycling - not confirmed.

○ November 5th - CUB for carbon free homes (Zoe Husben)

4. Planning for 2025 Arbor Day Event

○ CG reached out to most of the previous booth exhibitors. Some of the confirmed exhibitors are: Warrenville in Bloom, Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL), Citizens Utility Board (CUB), Fox Valley Beekeepers

○ Commissioners voted unanimously to provide $400 from the Arbor Day budget to support IDAC in purchasing necessary supplies to create an autistic friendly experience for those attendees that need special services.

○ The commissionerswill consider only using ½ the park district gym on Arbor Day if there aren’t enough booths to fill the whole space.

○ The following seedlings will be ordered:

• 100 each of redbuds, white dogwoods, and river birch

• 50 of each linden (basswood), swamp oaks, and shagbark hickory

• 1 ceremonial tree - Species and location TBD by Cecila and Dave.

5. Discussion of Comparable Communities Environmental Commission Research

The item will be tabled for a future meeting.
