State Representative Jennifer Sanalitro has introduced a bill aimed at enhancing protections for human trafficking victims. The proposed legislation, known as HB1903, would enable survivors to secure orders of protection against their traffickers, offering them a legal means to prevent further harm.
“Human trafficking victims face unimaginable challenges, and we must do everything we can to protect them,” said Rep. Sanalitro. “This legislation gives survivors the ability to take back control of their lives and provides a critical safeguard against those who seek to exploit them.”
The bill allows victims to petition the court for an order of protection, aiming to ensure their safety and peace of mind. It acknowledges the specific vulnerabilities faced by survivors and seeks to reinforce Illinois' commitment to supporting individuals affected by human trafficking.
“This bill is about justice and compassion,” added Rep. Sanalitro. “We owe it to human trafficking survivors to give them every possible resource to escape their abusers and rebuild their lives.”
The proposal is currently being reviewed in the 104th General Assembly.
