Steve Cortes, a political commentator, addressed Wheaton College's decision to remove a congratulatory post for alumnus Russell Vought’s Senate confirmation. Cortes expressed his views in a February 8 post on X.
"Two important lessons here: 1. For believers, most supposedly “Christian” schools are systemically compromised," said Cortes. "For all Americans, we fund these schools, massively. Including the private ones. Especially the private ones, actually. Time to stop paying for academia propaganda!"
Cortes’ comments were in response to the university's decision to delete a message celebrating Vought’s confirmation as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). According to Fox News, Wheaton College initially posted a congratulatory note but removed it after receiving over 1,000 negative comments. The college cited its intention to avoid political controversy as the reason for the removal.

"The recognition and prayer is something we would typically do for any graduate who reached that level of government," Wheaton College said in a February 8 Facebook post. "However, the political situation surrounding the appointment led to a significant concern expressed online. It was not our intention to embroil the College in a political discussion or dispute."
Wheaton, known as a prominent evangelical institution, emphasized its stance as a nonprofit organization that does not endorse political figures. The college clarified that it removed the post to prevent further controversy but stressed that it was not an apology for recognizing Vought.
According to Fox News, Vought served as OMB director during President Trump’s first term and was confirmed along party lines, with all 53 Senate Republicans voting in favor and the entire Democratic caucus opposing his nomination.
Cortes is described as a political commentator, financial market expert, and former campaign strategist with connections to Trump campaigns. He also holds the position of founder and president of the League of American Workers, an organization advocating for American workers' rights and interests.
