Congressman Bill Foster, who has represented Illinois’ 11th district since 2013, recently shared his thoughts on various issues via social media. Foster, a scientist by training, expressed sentiments ranging from lighthearted participation in local traditions to serious concerns about national governance.
On February 2, 2025, Foster attended Woodstock's annual Groundhog Day celebration. He shared his experience with his followers, stating "As a scientist, I’m usually all about facts and data—but today I put that aside for the hope of an early spring! It was great to visit Woodstock this morning for their annual Groundhog Day celebration. I’m happy to report that Woodstock Willie did NOT see his shadow!"
The following day, on February 3, 2025, Foster voiced concerns over Elon Musk's involvement with U.S. Treasury payment systems. He tweeted "Elon Musk is an unelected oligarch. Americans deserve answers as to why he was given unrestricted access to the U.S. Treasury payment systems. This power grab is unprecedented, but my colleagues and I are doing everything we can to try to stop this."
Later on February 3, Foster addressed issues related to USAID and potential risks associated with its dissolution by notable figures such as Donald Trump and Elon Musk. He emphasized the importance of maintaining U.S. leadership globally and safeguarding against future disease outbreaks by stating "Neither Donald Trump nor Elon Musk has the authority to dissolve USAID. Shutting it down is dangerous and must be stopped. Not only will this deteriorate U.S. leadership globally, it makes it much more likely that future disease outbreaks will reach our shores."
