DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Aurora Chief of Police Keith Cross have announced that Judge Maureen Riordan has approved the state's request to deny pre-trial release for Marcus Dover, a convicted felon from Chicago. Dover is accused of illegal possession of a loaded firearm and crashing his vehicle into another car. The 33-year-old appeared in court charged with multiple offenses, including Armed Habitual Criminal (Class X Felony), Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony), Defacing a Firearm (Class 3 Felony), Misdemeanor DUI, and other traffic violations.
The incident occurred on November 29, 2024, at approximately 6:35 a.m., when Aurora police responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries. Officers found Dover pinned in his vehicle and allegedly observed a loaded Glock 22 with an extended magazine on the driver's side floorboard. After being extracted from his vehicle, Dover was taken to a local hospital for treatment. An investigation revealed that he allegedly drove into oncoming traffic, causing injury to another driver who was also hospitalized. Dover has previous convictions for similar offenses in Kane County and Cook County.
State’s Attorney Berlin stated, “It is alleged that Mr. Dover, a convicted felon, was not only illegally in possession of a loaded firearm with an extended magazine but also crashed his vehicle into an innocent motorist’s vehicle, causing injury.” He emphasized the seriousness of the charges and expressed gratitude that the victim was not seriously injured.
Aurora Chief of Police Cross remarked on the case's significance: “The reckless and dangerous actions alleged in this case highlight the critical need for holding individuals accountable when their behavior puts others at risk.” He reiterated the department's commitment to community safety during the holiday season.
Dover's arraignment is set for December 23, 2024, before Judge Margaret O’Connell. Authorities remind the public that these are charges only; Dover is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
