State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) has recognized Taylor Slaby, an 11-year-old student at Wheaton Christian Academy School, for earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award. The award is one of the highest honors a Girl Scout Junior can achieve and is given to young women who demonstrate leadership and dedication to community service.

“Taylor’s dedication and commitment to improving literacy in our community is inspiring,” said Representative Grant. “At such a young age, she has demonstrated not only leadership but also a deep understanding of the impact that early learning can have on a child’s future. I am proud to recognize her for this well-deserved accomplishment.”

Since April, Taylor Slaby has been working to raise awareness about the importance of early reading and learning programs in her community. Over approximately 30 hours, she organized and led a project promoting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which provides free books to children from birth to age five.

Taylor's efforts included interviewing professionals on early reading's significance, educating community leaders, engaging with churches and early learning centers, and distributing educational materials about the Imagination Library.

In addition to her passion for reading, Taylor enjoys playing the violin and participating in cross-country, track, golf, tennis, swimming, and fishing. She values spending time with her family and dog.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award requires scouts to identify a community issue, plan and execute a project addressing it, and lead others in the effort. Taylor’s project met these criteria while showcasing her organizational and communication skills.

State Representative Amy Grant encourages the community to congratulate Taylor Olivia Slaby on her achievement and support initiatives fostering learning among young individuals.
