Adam Andrzejewski, CEO and founder of OpenTheBooks.com, passed away on Sunday, August 18.

The wake will be held from 4-8 p.m. at Sullivans Funeral Home in Hinsdale, Illinois this coming Wednesday, August 21. The funeral will be held at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Thursday morning, August 22.

Andrzejewski, a Hinsdale resident, grew up in Herscher, Illinois before attending Northern Illinois University where he received his bachelor's in business. He worked as a financial adviser before co-founding the community publishing firm HomePages Directories, which later became the largest publisher of small-town phonebooks.

Andrezejewski left business 15 years ago to create the nonprofit organization to help further his dream of increasing government transparency. With the mission of "Every Dime, Online, in Real Time," he created OpenTheBooks, which is the largest government transparency portal in the country, with work often sited in Congressional hearings.

"Adam’s belief in the power of transparency to transform government and hold it accountable at every level is the driving force behind our work," a statement from the nonprofit board said. "His relentless pursuit of open records and forensic auditing has set new standards in the fight for government transparency."

Andrezejewski leaves behind his wife Kerry and their three daughters Emma, Molly, and Ellie.
