The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is inviting local history enthusiasts to explore the rich past of Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve during “Fullersburg Days” on June 24 and 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Graue Mill and Museum and the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook.
“Fullersburg Days” will offer a variety of historical, nature-oriented, and family-friendly activities. Attendees can try fishing with cane poles, making dolls out of corn husks, joining guided nature and plant hikes, going on self-guided history walks, and touring the historic Graue Mill with demonstrations of traditional corn-grinding milling techniques. S'mores kits will be available for purchase at $5 each at the mill, which will have fire pits and roasting forks.
The Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center will feature a display highlighting the contributions of the Civilian Conservation Corps to the preserve’s development through historic photographs. Additionally, visitors can attend a talk about the center’s wooly mammoth discovery in DuPage County.
“‘Fullersburg Days’ is a great opportunity for folks to discover our heritage, explore the natural beauty of the area, and create fun memories,” said Jay Johnson, heritage site logistics manager for the Forest Preserve District.
