Spring legislative session adjourned, marking the beginning of summer. State Representative Amy Grant (R-Wheaton) expressed her enthusiasm for the season, highlighting fairs, festivals, farmers markets, and community car shows as opportunities to engage with constituents. "Whenever I can spend time around the many people who make our area so unique and special, I am in my happy place," she said. She encouraged residents to share their thoughts and requests for assistance through her district office at 331-218-4182.

In legislative news, Rep. Grant introduced HB1879 to tighten procedures for picking up Schedule II controlled substances in Illinois. This bill follows a CBS Chicago report about a woman's stolen opioid prescription, revealing a loophole in pharmacy privacy protections. "Protecting our constituents’ privacy, particularly when it concerns their healthcare, is paramount," stated Rep. Grant. She emphasized the severity of the opioid crisis in Illinois, noting that it has claimed more lives than motor vehicle accidents and homicides combined.

Rep. Grant continues to seek community input through legislative surveys covering newly filed legislation and topics relevant to working families. These surveys are available online, in person, or over the phone via her Legislative Office at 331-218-4182.

April was National Child Abuse Prevention Month, but awareness efforts continue year-round. It is crucial to recognize the 10 signs of child abuse as many cases go unreported. The average child tells seven adults about their abuse before a formal report is made.

During the Spring Legislative Session, Rep. Grant met with various advocates and stakeholders including ABATE of Illinois, the Illinois Nurses Association, College of DuPage students, and local park districts.
