State Representative Amy Grant has been actively working on behalf of her constituents in the 47th District. This month, she has made significant strides in advocating for changes to Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) procedures, addressing the issue of soft on crime policies, supporting school libraries, and promoting workforce development. Additionally, Rep. Grant is actively seeking input from Illinois families through her Illinois Family Priorities Assessment.

One of the key achievements of Rep. Grant's advocacy is the implementation of a new policy at the DMV. After receiving numerous complaints from constituents, she filed House Bill 1528, which proposed exempting first-time driver's license applicants from performing a road test if they have completed a certified driver's education course. This change aims to streamline the licensing process and reduce burdens for Illinois residents. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has internally adopted this policy, eliminating the need for additional legislative action.

Concerned about public safety, Rep. Grant has voiced her opposition to the SAFE-T Act, which she believes favors criminals over victims and makes it more challenging to keep classrooms, neighborhoods, and main streets safe. She highlights the negative outcomes of this legislation and drug abuse and misguided decriminalization efforts in Illinois.

In support of education, Rep. Grant announced that numerous school libraries in her district have been selected to receive state grants. These grants will enhance library offerings, including the acquisition of books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual materials, and advanced technology. She believes that these resources will contribute to enhanced learning experiences for students.

Rep. Grant recently visited Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Lisle, a private learning institution known for its automotive, diesel, and industrial machine training. She witnessed firsthand how UTI prepares students for careers in various fields and commended their commitment to connecting young adults with skilled job opportunities. Rep. Grant sees UTI's work as part of the solution to solving Illinois' workforce struggles.

Recognizing the growing issue of food insecurity in DuPage County, Rep. Grant encourages individuals to make donations to local food pantries. She emphasizes that these donations go a long way in helping neighbors in need. Similarly, she urges individuals to participate in local blood drives, as blood banks in Illinois are facing critical shortages.

In addition to her advocacy efforts, Rep. Grant has announced the Illinois Sheriffs' Association (ISA) Annual Scholarships, which will award over $58,000 in college scholarships for the academic year 2024-25. This program reflects the ISA's commitment to education and youth development in Illinois.

Finally, Rep. Grant has launched the "Illinois Family Priorities Assessment," an online survey designed to gather the diverse views and experiences of families in Illinois. The assessment focuses on key areas such as education, public safety, cost of living, senior care, and overall quality of life. The feedback collected through this initiative will inform Rep. Grant's legislative evaluations and community initiatives.
