State Senator Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) has announced that close to $5 million in Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grants are coming to communities in the 24th District.
“I was pleased to see that communities in the 24th District received a large share of the total grant funds this year,” said Lewis. “The funds will go far in assisting with some very welcomed recreational projects for those living in this region.”
The OSLAD program, established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that supports land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. This year, cities, villages, park districts, and forest preserve districts had the opportunity to apply for grants over the last several months.
Several communities in the 24th Senate District have been awarded grants:
- Bartlett Park District: $600,000
- Addison Park District: $600,000
- Bensenville Park District: $570,100
- Bloomingdale Township: $150,000
- City of Warrenville: $600,000
- Lisle Park District: $600,000
- Roselle Park District: $600,000
- Village of Itasca: $600,000
- Winfield Park District: $600,000
These grants will support various projects aimed at enhancing parks and outdoor recreational spaces in the 24th District. The Bartlett Park District, for example, plans to use the funds to develop new trails and improve existing amenities. The Addison Park District will focus on upgrading playground equipment and enhancing accessibility for individuals with disabilities. The Bensenville Park District aims to create a new community garden and improve athletic facilities.
"The 24th District is home to some of the most beautiful and family-friendly parks in the state, so I was thrilled to learn that these OSLAD grant funds are coming to communities in my district," said Lewis. "These funds will go far in making great park systems even better."
The awarded grants will not only benefit the residents of the 24th District but also attract visitors and boost the local economy. Improved parks and recreational facilities can enhance the quality of life for residents and provide opportunities for families to engage in outdoor activities.
The OSLAD grants are a testament to the commitment of the Illinois General Assembly and local governments to invest in the preservation and development of open spaces. By supporting the creation of new parks and the improvement of existing ones, these grants contribute to the overall well-being and enjoyment of the communities in the 24th District.
With the receipt of these grants, the communities in Senator Seth Lewis' 24th Senate District are poised to embark on exciting projects that will enhance their parks and outdoor recreational spaces. The funds will allow for the implementation of various improvements and amenities that will benefit residents and visitors alike.
