The Safe Suburbs PAC has raised concerns about public safety after a recent gun-related arrest at Naperville's TopGolf, marking the fifth such incident in less than a year.

The advocacy group questioned the need for continued operation of the entertainment facility, emphasizing the potential risks it poses to the community.

“This makes 5 gun arrests in under a year at the Naperville TopGolf. At what point should a community seek to close a business that attracts a criminal element to its community? Should it wait for the inevitable shooting before taking action?” Safe Suburbs PAC said on X.

Dequan J. Dent Davis, 26, was taken into custody on New Year's weekend after police observed a firearm in his car during a routine patrol in TopGolf's parking lot. Alongside Davis, Evan Bradley Edwards, 34, was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres has acknowledged the trend of gun-related incidents at TopGolf and has expressed ongoing efforts to collaborate with the establishment to address safety concerns and eventually bring the number of incidents down to zero.

Arres emphasized proactive measures to eventually bring the number of incidents down to zero.

Safe Suburbs USA has questioned the need to wait for more serious incidents before taking action.

On its website Safe Suburbs USA notes it “promotes public safety and the welfare of suburban residents throughout the USA by advocating and educating on issues relating to crime and its effect on suburban families. We recommend and promote agencies, candidates and programs which promote public safety and the rule of law.”

Since 2000, Topgolf has built over 80 locations around the world.

The company is continuing to expand across the country.

The Naperville location opened in 2015 at 3211 Odyssey Court. It was the company’s 22nd facility.

The 65,000 square-foot entertainment complex with three stories, the facility features 102 climate-controlled hitting bays accommodating up to six players at a time.

The venue includes a full-service restaurant, three bars and over 200 high-definition flat-screen televisions.
