Safe Suburbs Twitter poll has received 872 votes and thus far garnered over 98% of responses favor Naperville City Council candidate Josh McBroom’s “Merry Christmas” greeting.
The poll came after grumblings from the far left about McBroom not using an alternative greeting, such as Happy Holidays.
“Naperville City Council candidate Josh McBroom is being beat up by Naperville liberals for wishing his Facebook friends a Merry Christmas (alleging this is an offensive gesture these days)," Safe Suburbs said on Twitter. "Do you find McBroom’s gesture offensive? PM us if you’d like his yard sign.”
McBroom noted the “Christmas season” in a recent Facebook post. “Great to have the Mayor’s Interfaith Community Breakfast back. One of many great community events we all missed last couple years. Always feels like the official local kick off to the Christmas season,” McBroom said on Facebook.
Leftists also reacted poorly to McBroom’s pushback on masking child athletes indoors. McBroom, a Park District Commissioner, suggested there “should be a requirement of board members who support (masking) to play a full court basketball game masked up,” NCTV17 reported. At the time many were questioning the masking of children in general, but more specifically the masking of those participating in athletics. More recently many who previously advocated for indefinite masking have made an about-face and admitted failure of Covid protocols in the face of steep learning loss and poor achievement scores for the current generation of students.
McBroom has been a park commissioner since April 2019. He has been a coach in the Park District for more than a decade as well as a financial advisor in Naperville for 18 years. McBroom was president of KidsMatter for three years and has been active in the organization for seven years. He is also on the Linden Oak board, a member of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, Maplebrook II Swim and Racquet Club, the YMCA and the Naperville Little League.
