The Hinsdale Village Board of Trustees discussed the previously approved tentative 2022 village and library tax levy during its Nov. 17 board meeting.
Board President Thomas Cauley said the levy, estimated to be about $11.7 million, was up 5.76% from the previous year.
"The proposed tax levy, totaling $11,750,033, represents the village in anticipated tax levy for calendar year 2022," Cauley said during the meeting. "On the agenda this evening is an ordinance to levy for 2022 and the aggregate amount of $14,930,551, which is inclusive of a series of abatements."
Since the tax levy increased by more than 5%, the village is required to hold a public hearing under state laws outlining rules for truth in taxation.
No Hinsdale resident commented or asked questions about the proposed levy during the public comment period of the meeting. The tax levy is for the library, police and fire pension funds, recreation programs for handicapped individuals, and debt service payments, Cauley noted during the meeting.
Specifics of the tax levy were also talked about during the meeting. Cauley pointed out that the library had not yet submitted their final numbers since it would be decided on during the library's December meeting.
