Baseball Runs Win Streak to Nine

The Benedictine University baseball team ran their win streak to nine games while improving to 15-1 in the NACC and 10-0 at home with a sweep of Edgewood.

GAME ONE DETAILS

• Following a delay of 1:11 due to consistent rain, the contest started slow with no offense coming until the bottom of the sixth inning

• Damen Castillo singled with two outs and moved to second on a wild pitch

• Andrew Tenison drew a walk and Cole Wilson singled home the first run

• Wilson stole second and Sam Tickel blooped an RBI double to make the score 3-0

• Justin Sosa did the rest, further lowering his ERA

• Edgewood plated an unearned run in the ninth

GAME ONE LEADERS

• Sosa went the distance, striking out 13, a season high and his second double-digit showing of the year

• Benedictine finished with just six hits, two of which came from Wilson

GAME TWO DETAILS

• Benedictine wasted no time in the second game, jumping on the starter for five runs in the first inning

• Tickel led off the game with a double and scored on an RBI single from Ryan Doubek

• Kevin Bushnell followed with an RBI single

• Wilson and Chase Hanselman added RBI singles while another run scored on an error

• The final two runs of the game came in the second to chase the Edgewood starter

• Tickel singled with one out and Doubek followed with a walk

• With two outs Castillo doubled home a pair

• Robbie Dudzinski followed in the footsteps of Sosa by spinning a gem

GAME TWO LEADERS

• Benedictine finished with eight hits

• Two of the hits came from Tickel in the leadoff slot, who also scored twice

• Dudzinski won his fifth of the year by striking out 10 in seven innings, allowing just two hits

• Ty Liaromatis worked the eighth and Austin Pizer spun the ninth

TEAM NOTES

• The current nine-game win streak is the ninth longest in the nation

• Benedictine sported a 17-game win streak in 2021

• The pitching staff has recorded five shutouts this season and owns a 2.47 ERA in NACC play, best in the conference by over two points

• 16 times this season the pitching staff has record 10 or more strikeouts including 11 in conference play

• Benedictine has thrown 33.1 innings without allowing an earned run

• The 15 conference wins are the most since the 2014 team finished 16-4 in NACC play

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

• Castillo owns a 17-game on-base streak and an 11-game hit streak

• Tenison has reached in 15 consecutive contests

• Wilson owns an eight-game hitting streak

• Sosa leads the conference in ERA by almost a full point at 1.40 while sitting fourth with 54 strikeouts in 45 innings

• Dudzinski has allowed just one earned run in the last 20.1 innings

• Dudzinski and Sosa are tied for third in the league with five wins
