The Elmhurst softball team dropped both of its opening contest on its Florida road trip. The Bluejays fell 9-1 to Tufts University to start the day before falling 8-3 to Bowdoin College.
Elmhurst fell to 3-5 on the season.
TUFTS 9, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst dropped its first Florida contest by falling 9-1 to Tufts.
Tufts scored eight runs in the first three innings, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. The Bluejays scored a run in the fourth on a Maddie Trost sacrifice fly but Tufts scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to earn the eight-run walkoff victory.
Jena Hicks took the loss from the circle, surrendering six hits and seven unearned runs in two innings of work.
BOWDOIN 8, ELMHURST 3 - Bowdoin scored five runs over the first three innings to race out to a 5-0 lead. Elmhurst grabbed three runs back in the bottom of the fifth. Amaya Chavez tripled in two runs and Paige Pehlke added a run-scoring single to pull the Bluejays to within two runs.
Bowdoin tacked on three insurance runs in the seventh to earn the five-run victory.
Kate Sommer, Pehlke and Julia Noga collected two hits apiece for Elmhurst while Chavez drove in two.
Sydni Gizynski took the loss from the circle, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs over 6.2 innings of work. She walked six and struck out two.
