Naperville to host National Night Out events on August 3 and 4
Naperville will celebrate National Night Out with a series of community events on August 3 and 4. The city encourages residents to participate in the annual event, which aims to promote community spirit and support anti-crime efforts.
National Night Out, known as “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” is held nationwide on the first Tuesday in August. The event is designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support for local anti-crime initiatives, and strengthen partnerships between neighborhoods and law enforcement.
A free community kick-off celebration will take place at the Fry Family YMCA, 2120 95th St., on Monday, August 3. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature games, giveaways, a bounce house, a magic act, and opportunities for residents to interact with police personnel and equipment. Food trucks will offer food for purchase, and the evening will conclude with a free outdoor showing of a family-friendly movie at sunset. Free popcorn will be available while supplies last, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. In case of rain, the movie will be shown indoors.
On Tuesday, August 4, thirty-six neighborhoods across Naperville have registered to host National Night Out events. Activities will include bounce houses, ice cream socials, live music, food trucks, cookouts, and kids’ parades. City employees from the police, fire, public works, and utility departments will visit many neighborhood events between 5 and 8 p.m., bringing equipment, giveaways, and information for families. The city has also partnered with Little Friends, a private organization serving children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, for a donation drive during National Night Out. Donations will be accepted at the kick-off event, and neighborhoods are encouraged to participate in the drive. A list of needed supplies is available on the city’s website.
